The First Downpour

I love the rain
there’s something about it
perhaps it’s the relief of a cool breeze
on a skin-meltingly hot day
signifying the promise of a new season

as if all creation is taking the time to listen
to the rhythm the raindrops drum

I love the rain
there’s something about it
perhaps it’s the ability for the tears of the sky
to lift my cheeks and the corners of my lips
into a soft sincere smile

I love the rain
there’s something about it
perhaps it’s the comfort of knowing
that for as long as dark clouds cover the sun
even the happiest person comprehends the world
in the same way as my blue brown eyes
